Every jar is made by hand by Rose

Tallow Roots is Rose's company, and it started at home. Her two kids had very dry skin from an early age, and she was tired of creams full of ingredients she could not pronounce. She wanted simple ingredients.

She found grass-fed, grass-finished tallow, and today Rose, a hair stylist, makes every jar by hand. There are two lines: Balm Butta for the gents, with bold scents, and Tallow Glow for the gems, with soft ones.

Questions and answers

What is tallow, and why grass-fed and grass-finished?

Tallow is rendered beef fat, a traditional skin care ingredient. Ours comes from grass-fed, grass-finished cattle.

What is in the balms?

Grass-fed, grass-finished tallow, jojoba oil, a little extra-virgin olive oil, vitamin E, and essential oils for scent. Unscented balms have no added scent. The ingredient list for each balm is on its product page.

Who are the balms for?

Anyone with dry skin who wants a simple, moisturizing balm for everyday use, from rough hands to lips. Everyone's skin is different, so we suggest trying a small patch first. If you have a skin condition or an allergy, please check with your doctor before using any new product.

How do I use Tallow Roots balms?

Place a small amount between your hands and smooth it onto face, body, lips or any dry area. A little goes a long way.

What is the difference between Balm Butta and Tallow Glow?

Balm Butta is our line for the gents, with bold, sturdy scents. Tallow Glow is our line for the gems, with soft, graceful scents. Both come in 4 oz amber glass jars, and both have an unscented option.

How does shipping work?

Shipping is free on orders of 2 or more jars, and the His & Hers bundle ships free too. Orders usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, with tracking. For 1 jar, shipping is calculated at checkout.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

Because our balms are skincare products, we cannot accept returns of opened jars. If an item arrives damaged, email us within 7 days of delivery with a photo and we will make it right.

How should I store my balm?

Tallow balms can soften or melt in high heat. Keep your jar in a cool place, away from direct sun and hot cars.
